Olympic Medalist, U.S. Fencing Team
An Olympic trailblazer, Ibtihaj is the first U.S. athlete to compete in a hijab and the first Muslim American woman to earn a medal. Her sport is Saber Fencing, one that is accommodating to her religion, which requires her body to be covered. As an athlete, she found her inspiration in the William sisters. Now she inspires girls and women who, like her, are proudly fighting for the American Dream. She will continue to break barriers that are placed in front of her because of the color of her skin and her faith. Her platform transcends the world of sports. Mattel agrees. Last year they introduced a Barbie in hijab designed after Ibtihaj.
